In Rio San Juan. Yes, this is the only nature destination in Nicaragua that offers this type of tour.
In El Castillo, Sábalos, and San Carlos it is offered as a night tour for observation, freehand capture, and freehand release of alligators, it is carried out in the San Juan, Sábalos, and Frío rivers. In the Los Guatuzos (Papaturro) Wildlife Refuge, a night safari of birds and caimans is offered.
This refuge has 13 rivers, one of them: the Papaturro River, which connects several communities. This river has the highest population density of alligators (Caiman Crocodilus).
Commonly known as alligator or cuajipal, this is the second species of crocodile in our country.
In Papaturro, the night safari is carried out on a wooden boat made out of fiberglass. The expedition lasts two hours, there’s no difficulty, it can be started at 6:30 p.m. with a maximum of six people between 3 and 90 years old.
In addition to alligators, you will see iguanas, basilisks, frogs, and nocturnal birds. Seven species of turtles are registered in the area, including the famous and prehistoric caiman turtle, which could also be seen on the tour.
In the municipality of San Juan de Nicaragua, they can be seen in the course of the San Juan River, but in another dimension.
